LAWYER, FIVE OTHERS NABBED OVER FOILED PLAN TO KIDNAP BIZMAN FOR RANSOM
TO FACE PROSECUTION
Barrister Kayode Oshinyemi, by virtue of his membership of one of the notable and noblest professions, with the accolade of 'Minister in the Sacred Temple of Justice' , defending the defenseless, has burnt his fingers to uncontrollable lust for money.
Oshinyemi, currently cooling his feet in the cell of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, was alleged to have, alongside his accomplices, mapped out strategies to kidnap a businessman, one Alhaji Shakirudeen Olufowobi, following the syndicate's failed attempts to defraud their target of #250million.
Disclosing this to Crimepuzzle, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a press statement that the arrest of the member of the Bar was sequel to a petition by the businessman to the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, alleging a threat to his life by the lawyer and his cohorts.
Oyeyemi averred that, the petitioner was emphatic on the role played by the lawyer in several failed attempts to fleece him.
He said, "the petitioner alleged that the lawyer, having failed in his several attempts to make him part with millions of Naira to the syndicate, went further to perfect a plan to either rope him in a case he knew nothing about or kidnap him for ransom.
"Meanwhile, prior to the planned kidnap attempt, some members of the syndicate had been nabbed in the petitioner's Al-Amin Farm in Imagbon, via Ijebu-Ode, for stealing", the PPRO stated .
According to him, "On the strength of the petition, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, directed the Officer-in-Charge of FSARS, SP Uba Adam, to discreetly investigate the petition.
"And, in compliance with the CP's order, the outfit embarked on a technical based investigation and monitoring of the said lawyer's activities. The operatives' efforts paid off as the lawyer was caught on tape, planning with others to device means of forcing the businessman to cough out the sum of #250 million, a proceed to be shared amongst all members of the gang.
"Arrested along with the lawyer are: Adeborode Ogunlaja, Sodiq Owolabi, Abolaji Alabi, Mikhail's Abolaji, Abiodun Adebayo and Abolaji Adebola", Oyeyemi stated.
The PPRO further stated that, "On interrogation, Mukaila Abolaji narrated how the lawyer, in collaboration with Adeborode Ogun Lara, lured him into the plan to fraudulently extort money from the complainant and how the money would be shared among them, stating that he reluctantly cued into the plan because of the amount of money involved.
In his own statement, Abiodun Adebayo, who regretted knowing the lawyer, accused him of once using him to profess a fake miracle in a crusade organised by one of his pastor friends.
He said he was made to tie a live tortoise to his chest at a crusade ground in Ilese-Ijebu, a ploy to fool the congregation that he was arrested by the Holy Ghost to openly confess being a member of an occult.
"An allegation the lawyer was unable to deny", the statement added.
Meanwhile, CP Iliyasu has ordered that the suspects be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
